What we do / volunteer with us

WHAT WE DO
Legambiente Verona is a non-profit organization committed to the preservation of the environment and especially to art and nature in Verona. We organize and are involved in many different projects described below:

Parco delle mura e dei forti di Verona
Legambiente Verona and our partner-organisation Comitato per il Verde are responsible for the maintenance of a part of the Parco delle Mura, the park alongside the historical city wall surrounding Verona. Our goal is to make this beautiful and green area available for the people of Verona to enjoy nature and see the history of the city up close. You can find more information about the Parco delle Mura here: www.parcomuraverona.it

Salvalarte
Since 1994 Legambiente strives to make the cultural heritage of Verona available to the public. Thanks to the efforts of volunteers, we are able to open the gothic church of San Giorgetto with its interesting frescos to the public every weekend. During summer we also open the area of the Arche Scaligere for visitors who are interested in seeing these beautifully sculptured medieval tombs from up close.

Centro voluntariato permanente
Through the projects Servizio Civile Nazionale and Servizio Volontariato Europeo, Legambiente works with both Italian and foreign volunteers. Here you can read about the experiences of two international volunteers for the SVE-project: https://evslegambiente.wordpress.com/

Centro documentazione parco delle mura
Recently Legambiente Verona in association with Comitato per il Verde finished the restauration of the Austrian bastion Batteria di Scarpa in Via San Zeno in Monte. It is now possible to consult or loan books about the Parco delle Mura there. The opening hours are every Saturday from 10:00-12:00. To view the collection, go to http://www.ambientedocumenti.it/. If the book you need has PARCOMURA written in the abstract, you can find it here at the Batteria di Scarpa. Otherwise you can find it at the Centro Documentazione Ambientale, described below.

Centro documentazione ambientale
Legambiente has a collection of books, magazines and other materials on environmental themes, available for consultation or loan to students, researchers and citizens at Via Bertoni 4, Verona. To view the collection, go to http://www.ambientedocumenti.it/.

Centro educazione ambientale – CEA
Legambiente values environmental education highly. The Centro Educazione Ambientale organizes workshops and projects, both theoretical and practical for students of all ages. For more information, see https://www.cealegambiente.it/

Isola che non c’era
Conference room with a covered terrace and garden near the pools of Circonvallazione Galliano, bookable for groups. The building is suitable for large groups and also for people with disabilities.

Sala Barbarani
Conference room next to the office of Legambiente at Via Bertoni 4. Bookable for associations and groups of up to 60 people.

Looper and PM10
Legambiente takes part in these two projects to monitor the air quality and defend the right of citizens to live in a breathable city.

Puliamo il mondo
The Italian version of the international project ‘Clean up the world’. Every year thousands of people participate in this project to make the world more livable by cleaning parks, streets, public areas and even the banks of the river Adige.

VOLUNTEER WITH US!
Come and visit us to find out what you can do for the environment and the cultural heritage of Verona. Legambiente Verona is active throughout the city and is committed to the themes of biodiversity, pollution, public transport, waste and cultural heritage.

What can you do?
We are always looking for volunteers to help us open, close and supervise San Giorgetto and the Arche Scaligere. San Giorgetto is open all year on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You could take a morning shift from 10:00-13:00 or an afternoon shift from 14:00-18:00. The Arche Scaligere have the same shift, but are only open during summer, from June to September, every day of the week except for Monday. The volunteers open and close the doors, make sure everything looks tidy, supervise the entrance of visitors and answer questions about the church and its frescos or the tombs of the Scaligeri.
It is an interesting job to do, because you meet many people from all over the world, you can practice your Italian speaking skills and you get to learn about the cultural heritage of Verona. If you’re interested, please let us know!

Parco delle mura e dei forti
Legambiente Verona and our partner-organisation Comitato per il Verde are responsible for the maintenance of a part of the Parco delle Mura, the park alongside the historical city wall surrounding Verona. Our goal is to make this beautiful and green area available for the people of Verona to enjoy nature and see the history of the city up close.
We are always looking for volunteers to help us with the maintenance: mowing the grass, cleaning the picnic areas, pruning branches, removing leaves or any other job that could come up at the park. The shifts are every working day from 8:30 to 12:30 and on Monday and Thursday from 14:00 to 18:00. Working at the park is physically demanding and requires robust shoes and suitable clothes. Legambiente provides gloves and equipment and we explain how to use them safely.
This job is useful, because you can immediately see the result of what you did, you get to work with your hands (sometimes it can be a real workout) and you can practice your Italian speaking skills. If you’re interested, please let us know!
